How can we teach economics through practice?
Economics through experience: what can wooden spoons, sweets and cake teach students?
We tried a model economy involving spoon production, negotiation over resources and exchange for sweets. The activity introduced production, distribution, exchange and consumption. Further examples used a cocoa warehouse and a cake to explain inventory and supply. We discussed involving every student, keeping an activity within one lesson and connecting the experience to theory.
